Age Calculator: how to use it
Calculate exact age in years, months and days between a date of birth and any date, plus total days lived and days until the next birthday.
Exact age matters for school admissions, job applications with age limits, insurance, pensions and eligibility cut-off dates. The Age Calculator gives your age in complete years, months and days, the total number of days between the two dates and the date and countdown of the next birthday.
You can calculate the age on today's date or on any other date, which is the useful part for cut-off dates such as "age as on 1 July".
How to use the Age Calculator
- Enter the Date of birth.
- Leave Calculate age on as today, press Use today to reset it, or choose another date such as a form's cut-off date.
- Press Calculate age.
- Read the age in years, months and days, the total days, the next birthday and the days remaining.
Tips for better results
- For recruitment and exam eligibility, set the "age on" date to the official cut-off date from the notification, not today.
- The date of birth cannot be later than the calculation date; the tool will ask you to correct it.
- Months are counted as complete calendar months, so the number of days in a month depends on which month it is.
- Double-check the day and month order when typing dates by hand.
People born on 29 February
In years that are not leap years, there is no 29 February. This calculator treats the next birthday as 1 March in those years, which is the common rule for ordinary calendar calculations. Some legal contexts use 28 February instead, so check the rule that applies to your purpose.
Frequently asked questions
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. It uses real calendar dates, so leap days are counted.
Is my date of birth stored?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is saved.
Can I calculate the difference between two events?
Yes. Enter the earlier date as the date of birth and the later one as the "age on" date.
