Image Converter: how to use it
Convert images between JPG, PNG and WebP in your browser. Learn which format to choose for photos, logos, screenshots and websites.
Different formats solve different problems. JPG is small and ideal for photographs. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which suits logos and screenshots. WebP is a modern format that is usually smaller than both and is supported by all current browsers. The Image Converter switches between them in a few clicks, directly in your browser.
People most often need it when a portal rejects a file type ("JPG only"), when an iPhone photo will not open on another device, or when a website owner wants lighter images.
How to use the Image Converter
- Choose an image file. JPG, PNG and WebP are supported.
- Pick the target in the Convert to menu: JPG / JPEG, PNG or WebP.
- Press Process image.
- Check the preview and the new file size shown beside the original.
- Press Download result to save the converted file.
Tips for better results
- Photo to JPG or WebP for the smallest size. Converting a photo to PNG makes it much larger with no quality gain.
- Logo or icon with transparency: keep PNG or choose WebP. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas turn white.
- Repeatedly converting a JPG to JPG loses a little quality each time. Convert once from the best original you have.
- Converting a low-quality JPG to PNG will not restore lost detail. It only changes the container.
If your browser cannot create a format
Browsers decide which formats they can write. If the one you choose is not available, the tool saves in the closest supported format and shows a message saying so, so you are never left with a mislabelled file.
Frequently asked questions
Does conversion reduce quality?
Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP applies compression, which is usually invisible at the default settings.
Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Not directly. The tool reads formats your browser can display. Changing the camera setting to "Most Compatible" or exporting as JPG first works.
Is my image sent to a server?
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser.
