Duplicate Line Remover: how to use it
Remove repeated lines from a list while keeping the original order. Choose case sensitivity and whitespace handling for cleaner results.
Mailing lists, keyword lists, product SKUs and log extracts often contain the same line many times. Removing duplicates by hand is error-prone, and a spreadsheet is overkill for a quick clean-up. This tool keeps the first occurrence of each line and drops the repeats, preserving the order you started with.
The settings decide what counts as a duplicate, which is where most mistakes happen.
How to use the Duplicate Line Remover
- Paste your list into the text box, one item per line.
- Choose Whitespace handling: keep line spacing as entered, or trim spaces around each line.
- Choose Duplicate matching: case-sensitive (Apple is different from apple) or case-insensitive (Apple equals apple).
- Tick the blank-line option if you want to keep only one blank line when several appear in a row.
- Press Remove duplicates, then Copy result.
Tips for better results
- If two lines look identical but are not removed, a hidden trailing space is usually the cause. Switch to the trim setting.
- Use case-insensitive matching for email addresses and keywords, where capitalisation carries no meaning.
- The first occurrence is kept. If you need the last one instead, reverse your list first, run the tool, then reverse back.
- Sorting is not applied. The cleaned list stays in the original order.
Example
Input lines: Apple, apple, Banana, Apple. With case-sensitive matching the result is Apple, apple, Banana. With case-insensitive matching it is Apple, Banana. The difference is exactly one setting, so check it before you copy the result.
