QR Code Generator: how to use it
Create a QR code for a link or text, choose colours and download it as a PNG. Includes tips for readable, print-ready codes.
A QR code is a square barcode that a phone camera can read in a moment. It is a handy way to put a website address, a WhatsApp link, a Wi-Fi hint or a short note on a poster, a menu or a business card.
The codes you make here are static: the text you type is encoded directly in the picture. There is no account, no tracking and no expiry, and the code will keep working as long as the content it points to exists.
How to use the QR Code Generator
- Type or paste a Website URL or text. Include https:// at the start of web addresses.
- Choose the QR colour (the squares) and the Background colour.
- Press Generate QR code.
- Scan the preview with your phone to confirm it opens what you expect.
- Press Download PNG to save the image.
Tips for better results
- Keep strong contrast: dark squares on a light background scan best. Light-on-dark or low-contrast pairs can fail on some phones.
- Shorter content makes a simpler code that scans faster from further away. Use a short link rather than a very long one.
- Print the code at least 2 cm wide, and leave a plain margin around it.
- Always test the final printed version, not only the screen preview.
Choosing what to encode
A full web address opens a page. A "tel:" number starts a call, "mailto:" opens an email, and a WhatsApp link such as https://wa.me/ followed by the number opens a chat. Plain text simply shows the text on the scanning phone.
Frequently asked questions
Does the QR code expire?
No. Static codes do not expire, because nothing is stored by us. If the destination page is removed, the code leads nowhere.
Can I add a logo in the middle?
Not in this version. A plain code is the most reliable to scan.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The code is drawn in your browser.
