QR Code Scanner: how to use it
Read a QR code from a saved image or screenshot and see the decoded text or link before you open it. Includes safety tips for unknown codes.
Sometimes a QR code arrives as a screenshot or a photo, and pointing a camera at your own screen is awkward. The QR Code Scanner reads a QR code from an image file and shows you exactly what it contains, so you can check a link before you tap it.
It works with image files, not a live camera, and everything runs in your browser.
How to use the QR Code Scanner
- Select an image that contains a QR code, such as a screenshot or a photo.
- Press Scan QR Code.
- Read the Decoded result. If a code is found, its text or web address appears.
- Press Copy result to copy it, then paste it where you need it.
Tips for better results
- Use a sharp, well-lit picture. Crop out the background so the code fills most of the image.
- Blurry photos, reflections and heavily angled shots are the usual reasons a scan fails. Retake or crop and try again.
- If the image contains several codes, crop to a single one.
- Treat decoded links with care. Read the domain name before opening it and do not enter passwords or payment details on pages you did not expect.
Why scan before opening?
Scam QR codes are common on parking meters, posters and unsolicited messages. Decoding the code first shows the real address, so you can spot a lookalike domain before it loads.
