PDF Splitter: how to use it
Extract chosen pages from a PDF into a new file. Learn the page-range format, how to reorder pages and when to use it instead of printing.
Sometimes a PDF has far more pages than you need: a bank statement where only one month matters, a long form where a single page must be signed, a scanned book where you want a chapter. The PDF Splitter extracts exactly the pages you list into a new PDF and leaves the original untouched.
The tool runs in your browser, so statements and identity documents stay on your own device.
How to use the PDF Splitter
- Select the PDF. The number of pages is shown.
- In Pages to extract, type the pages you want. Use commas for separate pages and a dash for a run, for example 1,3,5-8.
- Press Process PDF.
- Check the message and press Download result.
- Open the new PDF to confirm it contains the pages you expected.
Tips for better results
- The order you type is the order you get. Entering 3,1 produces a PDF with page 3 first and page 1 second, which is a quick way to reorder pages.
- Page numbers count from 1 at the first physical page, not the number printed on the page itself.
- Entering a page that does not exist, such as 40 in a 10-page file, is rejected with a message so you can correct it.
- To split a file into two parts, run the tool twice: once for 1-5 and once for 6-10.
Splitter or printer?
You can also "print to PDF" and choose a page range, but that re-renders the pages and can change fonts, shrink content or lose links. Extracting with the splitter copies the original pages exactly.
Frequently asked questions
Does the original file change?
No. You always get a new file.
Can I extract every page as a separate file?
Not in a single step. Run the tool once for each page, or use PDF to Images if you need pictures.
What about encrypted PDFs?
Files that require a password cannot be opened by this tool. Save an unprotected copy first.
